Boathook

Boathook

Boathook is a long bar ended with a hook and a spearhead. On a yacht this simple tool is used to catch buoys and grab moorings. Sometimes the boathook is also helpful when setting and retrieving sails, it can also be used to catch various objects that fell overboard.

In the past, hooks were made of wood and steel. Nowadays, plastic and aluminum hooks are more common, which makes them lightweight and durable. Telescopic ones are also popular, allowing you to adjust the length to suit your specific situation, while requiring less storage space.

What to keep in mind when using a boathook:

  • It is better not to use boathooks with steel head for sails because there is a risk of damage.
  • The boathook has limited carrying capacity, we can use it to draw the buoy to the yacht, but an attempt to draw the yacht to the buoy can result in breaking the boathook.
